What can move a brief into a larger scope?

A known, accessible location and a prioritised shot list can fit a focused capture brief. Finding the location adds research; moving between locations, adding contributors or requiring specialist equipment changes the coordination needed. Tell us these requirements before choosing a filming day.

On-site hours are not a guaranteed number of usable shots. Agree the essential shots, time of day and technical needs first. The quote confirms the crew, equipment, days, travel, permissions, tax and intended usage.

What should you send before a quote?

  1. The edit you are making. Describe the story, audience and where the footage will appear. Include a reference film or visual treatment if you have one.
  2. The location. Share a map pin or name if known. If you need location research, explain the landscape, atmosphere and practical requirements.
  3. Shot priorities. Separate the essential shots from the optional ones. Note people, dialogue, aerials, sound, stills or vertical framing.
  4. Dates and flexibility. Include the preferred filming window, delivery deadline and what can move if access or weather changes.
  5. The handover. Tell us the resolution, frame rate, colour workflow, audio needs, file format and how your editor wants the footage organised.
  6. Budget and approvals. Share a working budget, who signs off the plan, and when your team can join agreed remote check-ins.

An incomplete brief is welcome. The first conversation establishes what still needs to be researched or decided.

What needs checking before filming?

A location appearing on a map does not confirm permission to film there. We check the planned activity, access, local conditions and the permissions relevant to that shoot. Aerial work, interviews and specialist equipment require their own feasibility and cost checks.

Weather, flowers, wildlife and light cannot be guaranteed. If a brief depends on a particular condition, discuss alternatives, weather allowances and any return visit before booking. Shoot and delivery dates are confirmed after the location, crew and scope are reviewed.

What will your editor receive?

HALF-DAY CAPTURE and CAPTURE include one organised handover of original footage in the agreed format. Before filming, confirm folder organisation, any review files, supporting shot notes and the delivery method with us. Editing is not included in those starting scopes.

Usage is agreed for the actual project: media, territories, duration and third-party use all matter. Do not assume unrestricted reuse, contributor permission or music licensing from a starting price. An edited master, sound work, titles and additional versions should be included in the quotation when required.

To assess our filming approach, watch Ahare’s existing location films. Those films show our work; your project has its own agreed production scope.

Start with the brief you have.

Send your location, shot priorities and deadline. We will review feasibility and prepare the proposed scope before any booking is confirmed.
